Understanding sensory play

I’ve been exploring sensory play activities with the children I care for, and I’ve found it really helps with their focus and communication. For instance, using textured materials like rice or pasta can really engage them. I’m curious if anyone else has found particular sensory activities that worked wonders for their kids?

I totally get that! It drives me nuts when kids just don’t engage. When we used both rice and pasta, I noticed they’d really dive in with their hands, but also tried incorporating music. It added an extra layer of excitement, even though it means more cleanup afterward.

Sensory play can really bring out their creativity! I’ve found that adding a little music while they’re playing with the rice can make it even more engaging. What kind of music do you think would work well with those activities?
